Each post is identified by its height and alternating colour pattern.
Together they mark boundaries, overhead-line sectioning, rockfall-warning installations, braking points, technical equipment and former dwarf-signal positions.

Each post has its own alternating colour pattern. The dwarf-signal post, 64F, is the short member of the family.
Signal 64B
Sectioning post
Marks the relevant stopping point at an overhead-line section boundary for an electric traction vehicle with its pantograph raised.

Rockfall-warning post
Marks the beginning or end of a rockfall-warning installation.
Signal 64D
Braking post
Marks the beginning of the braking distance for a train that is to stop using automatic speed regulation.

Technical post
Marks a technical installation in or beside the track for maintenance personnel.
Signal 64F
Dwarf-signal post
Marks where a dwarf signal would have stood; its indication applies from the post. This form is not used in new or rebuilt installations.
