The place
A railway story you can step into
Norsk Samferdselshistorisk Senter uses the station area as a working setting for preserved transport. Historic trains are part of a broader collection and activity programme that also includes buses, cars and motorcycles.
This is best understood as an active heritage centre rather than a conventional museum with daily galleries. Its value lies in the vehicles, railway setting, restoration work and events that bring different parts of Norwegian transport history together.

History
A transport-history centre at a railway junction
Norsk Samferdselshistorisk Senter occupies a setting shaped by more than 150 years of railway operation. Hønefoss station first belonged to Randsfjordbanen and later became a meeting point for several routes, making the yard a natural home for working railway and road-transport collections.
Hønefoss station opens
The station opened as Randsfjordbanen reached Hønefoss. The railway strengthened the town's role as a transport centre between Drammen, the Ringerike district and the inland waterways. 12
A new station for Bergensbanen
The present station building entered use when Bergensbanen opened through Hønefoss. Randsfjordbanen was converted from narrow to standard gauge in the same period, allowing through traffic on the expanding network. 12
The junction develops a large railway environment
Passenger routes, freight traffic, locomotive facilities and a broad station yard made Hønefoss more than a stop on one line. The surviving railway setting explains why large historic vehicles can be preserved here in context. 12
A working meeting place for several transport communities
The centre gathers historic trains, buses, cars and motorcycles beside the station. Clubs, restoration work and announced events form the experience rather than a conventional daily museum gallery. 3
